Hello, fellow Saloners! I hope this fine Sunday morning finds you all well.
I fell like I have been out of the Salon loop for ages! Between house-sitting several weeks back, and Chicago this past weekend, my Sunday's seem to have escaped from me! My roomie and I went to B&N on Friday and the 15% coupon that they emailed me was burning a hole in my wallet, so I bought another book, Brandon Mull's Fablehaven. I've heard that I won't be disappointed, but I'm a little apprehensive as it's the start of another series, and I don't really want to get sucked into catching up on another series. Especially since I just finished reading Jim Butcher's Storm Front, the first book in his Dresden Files series, and loved it! Now I want to go pick up the entire lot and read it right through. I think I'm going to try to space that one out a little, but Amazon's 4-for-3 deal is looking pretty good right about now.
Unfortunately, that is all I've read this past week. I knew as soon as summer arrived, my reading time would be reduced significantly, and it has. There just always seems something to do during an evening. I would like to sit down this afternoon and reorganize my ever growing TBRSTL pile (To Be Read Sooner Than Later pile - the books piled on my nightstand so I've always got one handy) and prioritize these into what I need to read (ARCs) and what I would like to read in between. I think I got a little carried away with requested ARCs and now I need to really start trying to get a system in place so I don't fall behind on getting them reviewed!
Our library opened their new location yesterday, right across the street from my apartment complex, and it looks lovely. They were to have an open house for the Friends of the Library on Tuesday, but when B and I went over there, it was closed. We had some rather dramatic storms last weekend, and power was out for several days all over the area, so I'm wondering if that didn't have something to do with it. I was going to go to the grand opening celebration yesterday, but had the times wrong and got there 15 minutes after they closed. So tomorrow night, I'm going directly after work so that I can check it out.

I really can't wait to get into Jim Butcher's books. I watched the series on TV and couldn't get into the books after that.
When enough time passes, enough distance has passed, I will start the series.
J Kaye - the tv series sucked compared to the books. They just got so much wrong!!! You don't need to wait for time to pass...it was almost like 2 different stories. Read the books. You won't regret. =)
Tapestry - so glad you like the Dresden books. You really should just go out and buy the lot. You won't regret. Although I would 2nd putting some spacers in between each read. That way you won't go on Harry overload. They are all fun reads...but its nice to get that little break to digest each one. Ya know?
As for Fabelhaven. They are short quick reads...ok...so I've only read hte 1st so far but I have books 2 and 3 just waiting for me to give them some attention. plus, at least with this series there are only 3 books out so far...so you don't have a lot to catch up on. Unlike Dresden which just put out its 10th book. And that doesn't included to 3 short stories and the 4 set comic series...
The Dresden Files is among my favorite book series. I hope you will continue to enjoy the series.
I am with you about going a little too crazy with requesting ARE's. I definitely am overcommited right now and need to prioritize. Luckily, I seem to be in more of a reading mood than I was the last few months (one of the reasons I fell so behind), and so there is hope yet.

Jim Butcher was on the radio here in the Uk a couple of weeks back talking abut the latest in the Dresden File series. Apparently he has taken a rather unexpected line and a number of his readers have been disquieted by it. Has that been a talking point in the US as well? i haven't read any of them, but it sounds as though I should at least try the first.
How are you going to manage living that close to a library? One of my day dreams has always been to buy the house next door to our library and then dig a tunnel from one to the other. Goodness knows why I think I'd ever make it, I can't even dig the garden!
I am feeling overwhelmed by the amount of ARCs that I have requested and received also. What was I thinking? ha! My reading pace has tanked because of Summer. I am going to have to check out the Dresden series, it sounds interesting. Have a good day!

I think I'd recommend the Dresden books just based on the first one and that enough people have told me that the rest of the series is just as good.
I'm glad that the library has finally opened. I'm hoping that I can really get around to using it on a regular basis. I have an awful compulsion to keep every book I read, which is why I'm slowly beginning to run out of space for them all. With the library within walking distance now, I can't have an excuse for not taking advantage of it!
