X-Men ’92: House Of XCII by Steve FoxeMy rating: 2 of 5 stars
This idea behind this is really cool: A What If...? style story that takes the Krakoan Age and moves it into the early 90s. It moves quickly thru all the beats of the initial Hickman run, from the founding of Krakoa as a nation, to the Inner Circle Gala, to the creation of Asteroid X, a variation of the X of Swords event, and culminating in a version of the Inferno event. All of this would have really worked for me, except for the art. The 90s had a *distinct* style, with the likes of Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri, Whilce Portacio, & Rob Liefeld at the artistic helms of the X-books of the day, and I when I heard the announcement for this book, I had certain expectations for what the series would look like, and this is where the entire idea falls apart. It's not that Salva Espin's art is bad, not in the slightest, but it does *not* have any of the feel of the 90s. In addition, the graphic design choices made in the book look more 80s to me than 90s. Overall, a great idea that does not hold up to the X-era it is supposed to be emulating.
